Good conventional book readers like their books to be around 300-400-500 pages long because it isn't too short or too long for them. But, when Arthur Hailey's Hotel came out, no one began to mind length anymore. Good readers have other tastes and preferences also such as their dislike for even trusted publishers beginning to change international book sizes which had been accepted through decades. The sign is clear: they are now bought for not reading but for decorating homes in book shelves. It is true ‘books are not for decorating homes but nothing more decorates a home than books’. But good conventional book readers do not like these new sizes, evidenced by the fact that not a few major publishers now bring out their popular books in both sizes- in standard sizes for the seasoned readers and in larger sizes and glitter for the un-reading nouveau riche to decorate their homes. People who read more want their books to be lighter too. For one thing, books shall be lighter to be held in hand while reading lying somewhere. For another they shall not fall from hand to chest and hurt. The invention of the India Paper, believed to be by one of the ancient managers of the Oxford University Press, was a great advancement in the publishing field for the printing of light books. It made even Shakespeare’s Complete Works to be able to be held in two pencil-thin fingers.
