This is not the first time that the it@school project of the Government of Kerala has come under the scanner. Today they are being alleged and investigated by the national investigation agencies of India for getting involved in international gold smuggling deals. For many years they are already under allegations of heavy corruption in government projects which were originally meant to help school education in Kerala. Not only their financial deals but their technical deals also have been alleged to have been suspect or totally flawed. Besides, the qualifications of their head man also have been under the scanner and he has not till date explained satisfactorily and convincingly the credibility of the foreign institutions which qualified him. Links to some old articles on the many shabby deals and incompetent policies in the IT @ School, Kerala are shared here. Those interested can read them and discuss the old allegations against them here. Because Victers Educational Channel is their flagship project, its running and deals have always been the most criticized. Marxist Party’s Central Committee member and Kerala’s Finance Minister Mr. T. M. Thomas Issac, on 12 November 2020, i.e. immediately after the central agencies filed their findings, inferences and allegations, rose up to defend the shady deals of purchasing laptops and other educational equipment for schools, teachers and school children which were found to be useless and just e-waste in the field. No wonder he came up to defend the deals because it was he who financed the deals against good judgement. His advocacy is not enough to vindicate the failures and flaws of and corruption in the IT@School project and it’s Victers Educational Channel. The central agancies’ investigations will go on because the allegations against the project are long-existing.
P. S. Remesh Chandran was the first accuser of these projects. The first article written by him on these deals and policies ‘An Indian Educational Channel Falling From Sky’ was published on 24 March 2015, the second article ‘Victers Channel Failures Suppressed By Media’ on 17 September 2015, and the third article in Malayalam ‘വികു്ടേഴു്സ്സു് ചാനലിലെ ഓണു്ലൈ൯ ക്ലാസ്സുകളു് യഥാ൪ത്ഥത്തിലു് കുട്ടികളു്ക്കു് ഗുണംചെയ്യുമോ?’ on 18 June 2020. Mr. Ramesh Chennithala, the opposition leader of Kerala whom the Finance Minister Thomas Issac on 12 November 2020 condemns as raising inopportune and baseless allegations against the government’s ‘prestigious’ it@school project’s deals came on the scene only on 11 November 2020, after the central investigations filed their findings of the project personnel having involved themselves in the clandestine international gold-smuggling operations in Kerala which were detected and exposed before the public as well as the judicial authorities since June 2020. So, the other allegations already existed for long, even before 2015.
So the question here is not just weren’t this corruption in the it@school Kerala going on in the time of the last Congress government also in which Mr. Ramesh Chenithala was the Home Minister but why the Marxist government which came to power in 2016 in Kerala engaged the same person who headed this project under them from 2006 to 2011 and was terminated by the succeeding Congress government for proven corruption to head this project again on contract basis instead of engaging another qualified person and use him to make some money for them as earlier.
