After Narendra Modi and BJP split Jammu and Kashmir and carved two Union Territories out of it where as the union ministry, subverting people’s representation and democracy, they would have direct and supreme control, the BJP was defeated in the District Council Elections held there for the first time- because electronic voting machines could not be used and ballot papers had to be used. The Gupkar Alliance formed on 4 August 2019 by the former Chief Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah after the bifurcation, who contested the election saying that he would restore the special status of Jammu & Kashmir before it was cut off, won with an astounding and overwhelming majority.

Out of a total of 178 seats, where the BJP won 74 seats the Gupkar Alliance won 110 seats. While the BJP won 71 seats in the Hindu-dominant region of Jammu, it got only 3 seats in the Muslim-dominant region of Kashmir. Elections had to be held in 8 phases over 25 days, as explained by the BJP and the Election Commission, due to the possibility of severe clashes. The Gupkar Alliance (The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration) is an alliance of opposition parties to restore Article 370 of the Constitution, which was abrogated by the BJP's central government and their parliament- not the alliance of all the opposition parties in India, but the alliance of the parties of Jammu and Kashmir who have come together declaring that the special status of Kashmir as was guaranteed in the Constitution will be restored.

This election would have been rigged or overturned if it had been electronic voting machines used, but because of ballot papers it could not be. As per current estimates the BJP will not get even 50 seats out of 574 in the parliament elections if elections throughout India were conducted using ballot papers. And here is the Election Commission's deception and fraud towards the country.

The reason for talking about Kashmir here is that it is in these elections in Kashmir that in recent years the people of India have been as much alert and active as how much they should be alert and wake up and act in an election, and there existed a reason, a cause and conditions such volatile, that it was an election that was fitting for assessing the overall situation in the bifurcated states and the country. The issue of the ballot paper was specifically mentioned here because the ballot paper is the only thing that is going to sustain democracy in India, as proved in these elections.

The reason for talking about the Election Commission here is that it is the Election Commission, like a cheat, that with an objectionable sense of compulsion, with an obnoxious insistence, held and carried out a belief which none of the people shares, that if ballot paper is used for elections India will be destroyed, and even threatening people that if they oppose, debase or campaign against the Commission’s electronic voting machines they would be sued and charged with cases and arrested and imprisoned, and thus waging a war against ballot papers for electronic voting machines, skillfully and capriciously led India to a Hindu rule and dominance of BJP, Theocratic Corporatism and Reliance.

The joint battle by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Election Commission and the Supreme Court to prevent the return of ballot papers and to retain electronic voting machines is itself the proof that the elections are being rigged in India. What more proof is needed as far as the people are concerned? What proof other than that is needed? Why do they have such a strong concern in this? No matter how the vote is recorded- be it by machine or on paper- won't it be enough for them to count it? Are they not counting currency notes because there is more to count?

Since when the BJP came into power in 2014 and a number of individuals, organizations and factions from different parts of the country, even those in the union cabinet and the parliament, began to raise Hindu Rashtra slogans and demands, all actions taken by these three during the past ten years regarding how elections should be conducted in India were in the belief, determination and hope that if the BJP were in anyway helped to pass the present and most probably the last election by betraying democracy and cheating people, they will finally be able to create a Hindu Rashtra by toppling democracy, republicanism and non-secularism, and whatever happens after that to them three will be looked after and taken care of by the new laws, rules and procedures in this new Hindu Rashtra. In fact, not a single action was taken on the part of the three of them in the last ten years which would hinder or delay this common program of theirs. These actions include the BJP's political decisions, their Central Government's various legislations, the Election Commission's directives, and the Supreme Court's judgments. How come there is identicalness and accord in everything these?

They fear the financial and religious power of the proponents of Hindu Rashtra, those who embarked on the creating of the Hindu Rashtra by toppling the present non-secular republic and take steps, make laws and issue orders accordingly. If they do this even when knowing well that after doing this they may not survive in the tomorrow’s world with their today’s personality, then they must be having the sure knowledge that through their actions of today the very structure of the country’s systems and administration are going to be changed. But such knowledge, however, they do not seem to have passed on to the people. That is what gave people the courage to criticize and question them, and made it their duty in a democracy.

They came this far with capturing the rule of India twice through their relentless and unscrupulous campaign among the illiterate and the undereducated Hindus that perilous preparations were on with the help of the Muslim countries of the world to make India a Muslim country by 2047, and that therefore there was no way of escape without creating a Hindu state before this Muslim state came into being in India. They hastily completed this campaign at a fast pace and secured power even before the question of if the Christian and Muslim countries of the world will ever stand spectators and allow the democratic secular republican country of India being converted into a Theo-Corporate Hindu state rose and reverberated throughout the country from the opposite side.

It is their having acted with the determination and assurance in the midst of these that in the meantime they needn’t be ready to answer any of the questions that arise from people from all sides, and that after just two or three months when the General Elections in April-June 2024 are over the people will not even have the power to ask these or any questions at all that gave people the courage and inducement to connect these three to the proposed Hindu Rashtra as sacrificial devotional flowers. When they skipped without answering or even acknowledging people’s rational and reasonable questions such as if it was to reduce the use of paper and prevent forest destruction that they were not printing ballot papers, then didn’t the printing of BJP’s election posters alone cause use of more paper and more resultant forest destruction, were their voting machines linked to the internet or not and what software were they using in their electronic voting machines, the world laughed knowing why they skipped but we didn’t. We did not laugh because we sensed that democracy in India has no guardians now and we the people ourselves are now its guardians- a fact and situation which is something beyond the realms of emotional expressions.

Just as democracy has four pillars namely Executive, Legislature, Judiciary and Media, one of the pillars of Hindu Rashtra has been proved to be Electronic Voting Machines. Many other pillars will show up. It is already plain that religious Corporatocracy is one of them. What did the Supreme Court say when there appeared a complaint that the appointment of election commissioners was not regular- wasn’t it that the election was imminent and that there was no time to discuss and check such things? Even when there was a complaint that the votes on the VVPAT paper slips should be counted along with votes on the electronic voting machines, what did the Supreme Court say? Wasn’t it that the elections were so close and that there was not enough time to consider and examine such things? When there was enough time to consider and examine everything and anything and a demand came that ballot paper should be reinstated and electronic voting machines removed, wasn’t it what the Supreme Court said that it was impossible and out of question? The message is clear and people understand that nothing shall be permitted that push the BJP out, and nothing shall hinder Hindu Rashtra!

The pillars of the Hindu Rashtra of the Theo-political party BJP, corporations Reliance and Adani and the Hindu militant organization Rashtreeya Svayam Sevak Samgh will be very different from those of democracy. There will be no Executive, Legislature, Judiciary or Media in it. Hindu Rashtra is a completely different thing with no resemblance to democracy or anything at all. It lived thousands of years before democracy was born and breathed the rarified and more carbonated air of that era and lived. If a pre-Cambrian organism were to be formed from a single DNA particle preserved in its fossilized bones, would it be able to tolerate today's atmosphere? Is it not the atmosphere of that age that is instilled in its DNA? Will it change its body to suit the new atmosphere or change the atmosphere to suit and be compatible with its body? We will be told for a while till the Hindu Nation emerges in full that the Hindu Rashtra version of the state and of administration will be exactly like democracy and will have the same four pillars of democracy but with minor changes. When Hindu Rashtra comes into being in full regalia it will have quite new things inside- something completely different from democracy, like those electronic voting machines which democracy did not have.

Recent electoral experiences in India proved that India’s EVMs help only the Bharatiya Janatha Party and its Hindu Theo Corporatocracy. It’s now proved beyond doubt that without electronic voting machines there would have been no BJP victories and BJP governments. Now the Election Commission of India becomes angry whenever and wherever people and political parties demand re-introduction of ballot papers in stead. Why should they become angry when people demand an electoral process which they feel have served them well through decades?

This article was written on 21 May 2019 when India was going through a Parliament election and waited five years before publishing to see if the allegations against the BJP of manipulating electronic voting machines for victory would be disproved which it was not. Every election since then- from State Assembly Elections to the local Self-Government Body elections only proved that the centre-ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is more widely using EVM manipulations for election victories and also allowing this concession to be used by their Hindu Raashtra Allies like the Marxist Party in states like Kerala.

Even though the electoral process and the democracy in India is older than any but those in the USA, it is still not even considered a full democracy like Norway, Iceland, Sweden, New Zealand, Denmark, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Switzerland and Finland.

Why is India not included anywhere in this list of nineteen countries considered and accepted as with a full democracy? Other that the rigged electoral processes and accompanying corruption, what prevented India from emerging as a country with full democracy?

People are absolutely right in using the name EVM Government in India. If the government considers it as a shame, they are perfectly free to remove all EVMs from the country. Or they can even remove themselves from the government. And if they believe EVMs are perfectly legitimate, then what is the shame in being called an EVM Government?

Political parties, newspapers and television channels have no place in deciding whether voting machines are to be retained or removed because they never contributed to either initiating or carrying on this particular discussion. It is people who initiated this discussion in the country in the social media independent of the print and visual media and the politicians and are leading it. Let the discussion proceed in the social media and let people discuss the merits and demerits of ballot papers and electronic or mechanical voting machines.

Article Title Image 3 By Julie Johnson. Graphics: Adobe SP.

There is a ton of literature in internet on this subject, contributed by other countries which introduced or banned electronic voting machines which the people are perfectly free to read. As a result, today, the opponents of voting machines are far better leanrnèd and advanced than the supporters of voting machines and that is why the discussions on this issue go unbalanced. Let people read everything, discuss and tell politicians, media and the government whether they want voting machines to go and ballot papers to be brought back or the electronic voting machines to remain. No political parties, newspapers or television channels asked people to discuss this issue and no one- repeat ‘no one’- has a right to ask people to stop it. Let this discussion proceed in the social media and let people express their firm opinions. Why should a government and its supporters fear a people’s discussion on voting machines if they did not manipulate them to win the elections?

Postal Votes mean State Employees and Army Personnel- indeed a cross section of our society though not a perfect cross section. All service votes went to the ruling party BJP in spite of the opposition parties having the greatest number of government servants in their organizations made the people of India distrust the election processes. Anyway, more and more people have begun to distrust the electronic voting machines after the 2019 Parliament Elections in India and the demand for bringing back Ballot Papers is gaining strength.

Article Title Image 2 By Geralt. Graphics: Adobe SP.

BJP which had been steadily loosing polls in the state assembly elections throughout the country in 2018 securing 350 seats in the 2019 parliament elections made people suspicious of voting machines more than ever. In the coming years the campaign for Bringing Back Ballot Papers is only going to strengthen in India as it is already strengthening throughout the world. Many advanced countries- far advanced than India- are abandoning electronic voting machines for fear of massive manipulations and rigging and replacing them with Ballot Papers as earlier.

Governments want electronic voting machines to remain and people want them to go. We know why. Do not believe in people who shout machines are infallible and cannot be manipulated. They are those people who do not reveal personal details in social media like Face Book, Twitter and Linked In, fearing machines and systems would manipulate and misuse them!

People have the right to express their wish as to how to cast their votes- through ballot paper, or through electronic voting machines. Irrespective of what the election commission thinks or insists people have that right. Election Commission cannot change people but people can change election commissions and election processes. People may even change electronic voting machines and put ballot paper back in place when their campaigns gains momentum. In quite a number of countries in the world, people have put the ballot paper back and replaced electronic voting machines. In India too they may do exactly that. What is strange in India is it is not the political parties or the government but the president-appointed election commission itself that is insistent upon voting machines, without minding what many other democratic countries are doing.

In the history of election processes in the world, it was governments which demanded the introduction of voting machines in place of ballot paper, not people. People always stood for ballot paper and from verifying media archives we can see that only a very few people stood for voting machines. People are always suspicious of machines, though they do use them. Why do even people who strongly advocate in social media for the continuance of voting machines do not post their personal details or family photos in Face Book? It is because they know they are sure to be manipulated by someone somewhere through machines and misused without their knowledge and authority. That is machine. That is technology. Machines are insensitive and obey only commands.

Which is the country most famous for creating the largest scams in the world? India. Who gives commands to these machines? The officers of the country which holds the world record for scams. Do you think the officers of the election commission are unmarried, single, untouched, virgin young men and girls? They too are susceptible to vices like in any other institutions. Certainly it is not the only institution devoid of all vices in India. Why most people, except of course those who wanted to see BJP winning a sweeping victory, are doubtful about electronic voting machines is because the election commission declined to subject themselves to investigation on almost all of the allegations raised against these machines, including the most grave ones such as discrepancies in purchasing, transporting, paying for, missing and malfunctioning of these machines.

It was not the machines but the attitude of the election commission which germinated the seeds of distrust. They did nothing to establish their transparency and commitment but instead threatened people with prosecution- the very thing symptomatic of non-transparency and went on with alienating more and more people, which is not at all right for a democratically founded institution to do. If they are that unwilling to subject themselves to investigations on their machines and their processes and believe they are exerting their right, why can’t people exert their right to doubt their behaviour and policies and demand investigations?

Article Title Image 2 By Bill Wegener. Graphics: Adobe SP.

Can a democratically founded institution in a country challenge the democratic rights of the people of that country? It is sure something the UN or its branches like the UNCHR or ICJ to decide. Instead of subjecting themselves to investigations to clear all doubts raised on their procurements and policies, the election commission tried to browbeat and terrorize people by threatening all who question election processes and election commission! This only hinted the truth behind the allegations against their machines, in a way actually validated them and forced more people to call for bringing back the ballot paper. Why they become angry and furious at people demanding the bringing back of ballot papers? They have no right to become angry. This country has not yet become a dictatorship or an autocratic theocracy. It is still a democratic country with people’s right to elect a government and install institutions like election commission and watch for dictatorial, autocratic and theocratic trends developing among its institutions. You know, democracy replaced many worst forms of administration and it is only natural for them all to try to make their reappearance. Democracy needs watching, and keeping. In fact, in a democratic country, it is people’s duty to watch for dictatorial, autocratic and theocratic trends reappearing among its institutions and give warnings to others in time before it is too late. It is still not the other way. That was one of the many lessons the people of India were taught by the unilaterally declared national emergency of India in 1975.

If people do not watch and warn these great institutions they created how will they know and hear the footsteps of dictatorship, autocracy and theocracy approaching the planning for which are punishable by death in their democracy anyway? Unless the election commission knows their machines and processes are being manipulated and they themselves are now prone to dictatorial, autocratic and theocratic trends, why should they become angry enough to threaten with incarceration people who raise allegations against them? Isn’t even this anger and threat of arresting and prosecuting people a dictatorial, autocratic and theocratic trend? Even the president is elected by people, though at present through their representatives, and it’s the president who appoints institutions like election commission. So, ultimately, they are all responsible and answerable to people. It seems it is time the president warns them not to go beyond bounds.
